Journeyman Program Frequently Asked Questions
Q – Can an established artist that has been published by a comic book publisher in the past send in a submission?
A – Anyone can send in a submission, however, the objective of the program is to uncover the next great industry superstar artists. Therefore, quality work from unpublished artists is preferred. Experienced, professional artists should submit their work via the freelancer submission process.
Q – Will I be paid for my work?
A – Experienced freelancers are eligible for a page rate based on their name recognition, the quality/style of their work relative to the title in question, and the budget assigned to the particular book(s) to be worked on. Those artists should submit using a Freelancer submission form. The artists chosen to participate in the Journeyman Artist Program are not eligible for a page rate, but will receive 10 copies of the printed comic book and a letter of recommendation that outlines their performance along various competencies. This valuable recommendation and the printed books should be used when approaching publishers for freelancer opportunities. A journeyman artist could also "graduate" to a freelancer opportunity at Fierce after completion of their journeyman assignment. This program is specifically intended for unpublished, inexperienced artists who have a genuine desire to break into the industry with an emerging publisher and stand out from the thousands of other artists targeting the relatively few freelancer jobs.
Q – What if I've self-published my own comic book? Can I still apply?
A – Yes.
Q – Will I be able to publish my own book through Fierce Comics if I'm selected as a Journeyman artist?
A – Through the program, artists will be assigned to work on existing or planned Fierce Comics titles. Artist-owned properties will not be published through the program and Fierce Comics is not currently soliciting concept solicitations.
Q – Will I be able to keep my work?
A – Yes. Pencilers will be able to retain their penciled pages. Inkers who ink on separate boards will be able to retain their pages.
Q – How many books will I be able to work on?
A – The objective is to showcase an artist's skills across multiple issues. Artists selected into the program will be asked to complete a multi-issue story arc.
Q – Do I have to live in the United States?
A – No. The program is open to artists around the world, however, we do ask that you speak and write English to facilitate open communication.
Q – Do I need to own a computer?
A – Any artist selected to be a part of the Journeyman program is expected to have access to a computer, the necessary software, and Internet connectivity. |
