Tampa Bay Independent Comic Companies Band Together Tampa, Tuesday, April 29th, 2008 11:00 am EST Four Tampa Bay based independent comic book publishers have joined forces to publish an anthology of their work for Free Comic Book Day 2008. The book, called the Tampa Indy Studio Showcase, features work from Panda!Monium Press, Artistic License Studio, Blank Slate Studios, and Fierce Comics. The four companies are partnering to create the Tampa Bay Comic Colleagues Association, with the objective to share best practices and more cost effectively market their creative works. The Tampa Indy Studio Showcase is the first collaboration between the association’s members. It features four stories or story segments that include a marquee character from each of the participating companies. Limited numbers of the book will be available at comic shops in and around the Tampa Bay area as well as other comic shops throughout the country. “I think it’s a good idea for smaller independent comic companies to work together like this, said William Insignares of Demolition Comics. “We’ll have copies of the book available for free at all four of our locations on Free Comic Book Day.” Tim Gordon, producer of the Tampa Comic Book and Toy Convention said, “This is exciting news. Tampa's four great indy comics talents have come together to bring free comics to the people. This could be the start of something big for local comic book fans.” Representatives from each of the companies whose work is featured in the book will be available to sign copies and meet fans on Free Comic Book Day, May 3rd at Yancy Street Comics in New Port Richey and Demolition Comics in Largo.
