Fierce Comics Participates in 25th Anniversary Celebration at Comic World

Largo, Monday, August 27th, 2007 11:00 am EST

Saturday, August 25th marked the 25th anniversary of Comic World, the Tampa Bay area’s oldest comic book store.  To celebrate the anniversary, the store hosted a signing event that included both regionally and nationally known comic industry professionals.  The attendees included notable professionals Chuck Dixon, Jimmy Palmiotti, Pablos Marcos, Amanda Conner, Paul Pelletier and Randy Martin.  All graciously mingled with store patrons, signing autographs and discussing the business of comics.  “I couldn’t have asked for a better event,” said store owner Pat Potter.  “Everyone was very generous with their time and there was a real sense of camaraderie among the attendees.”

Also invited were several regional comic book professionals including Ben Filipiak and Pat Batton, from Fierce Comics, Jeff Earls from Storyline Studios, Mike Foss and Rob Rhine from Panda Monium Press and comic book artist Austin Janowsky.  “We were thrilled to be invited to participate in the anniversary event,” said Ben Filipiak.  “Comic World is a fixture in the Tampa Bay area and it means a lot to be asked to celebrate with such a great group of professionals.”

Comic World holds a significant place in the annals of comic book history.  The store was originally owned by Steve Geppi, Founder and President of Diamond Comic Distributors Inc., which is now the world’s largest distributor of English-language comics and comic related merchandise.  Pat Potter bought the store in 1992 and has managed to keep the business thriving through industry recessions in the 80’s and 90’s. “It’s a great store to shop for classic comics,” said Fierce Comics’ Pat Batton.  “You can always find something your looking for in a store like this.”  Comic World is currently planning another signing event to take place in 2007.
